A case has been registered against 7 people of Banswara district of Udaipur on Thursday and 2 of them were detained for allegedly publicly beating, stripping and leaving a woman at an isolated place in late hours on Wednesday night for getting married to a man of the same village following love affair, Said Kavendra Singh Superintendent of Police Banswara.
The incidence to light after a video of it got surfaced on social media in which the partially naked woman can be seen getting beaten up by the crowd.
According to Singh the woman was having an affair with a man that hails from Kotra village and they wanted to get married to each other but her parents were against of their relationship, but despite that they got married to each other against the wish of their parents and started living in a rented room in the same village, angry over the marriage the villagers along with the family members of the girl barked into their rented room on Wednesday night and started beating them to punish for their act.
On Thursday morning the victim woman went to the local police station and narrated the entire incidence and later lodged a complaint against the 7 accused, in her report she mentioned that she was having an affair with one of the man of her village and got married to him around 15 days back, but her family members were against the marriage and some of the people had also raised objection over it earlier, following the anger over the marriage people gathered outside her house at around 4pm on Wednesday, during that few of them barged into the house and started beating the couple, they dragged the woman from her hairs during which her clothes get ripped off partially, but the accused kept on beating her brutally and later they took her to an isolated place and left her there alone in late hours on that night.
Sp Kavendra Singh said ” Upon getting the report of the victim woman an investigation has been lodged and 2 out the 7 accused who were named by the victim in her report haw been arrested so far but as per the investigation so far it was found that victim was not stripped intentionally but got ripped off during the scuffle, however the things will get more clear once the investigation will get over, the duo of accused are still under interrogation and the hunt for the rest is still on”.
The District Legal Services Authority Banswara also took a cognigence into the matter and demanded thorough investigation of the matter and strict legal action against those that will be found guilty.
Devendra Singh Bhati, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Banswara told DU “I received the information of the incidence from one of our Panel Advocate Ateeq Khan, as soon as i received the information immediately took a cognigence and write to SP Banswara to to verify it and to take strict legal action against the culprits”.
