A team of Excise department of Udaipur on Friday seized a huge consignment of illegal liquor worth Rs.1 carores from an isolated farm house situated at Kherwada area of district.
Acting upon a tipoff the officials raided the farm in wee hours on Friday and has seized as many as 3000 cartons of Haryana made liqour filled in 2 trucks and q Bolero car. The officials raided the farm while the smugglers were loading the liquor cartons in the vehicles to be smuggled to Gujarat, but after seeing the officials they some how managed to flee away from the crime scene, said Dysp Excise Department Divya Mittal.
Mittal told the media that to curb the increasing smuggling of illegal liquor the Excise Commisioner OP Yadav contituted a special team led by her, her team on wee hours on Friday got an information about a racket of inter-state liquor smugglers storing a huge quantity of liquor at an isolated farm house, the team came in action and conducted a raid on the farm and succeded in confiscating the illegal liquor worth Rs. 1 carores but the accused escaped.
During the initial investigation the officials learnt that the racket involved in smuggling of illegal liquor are very active at Kherwada and other villages situated on the Gujarat border, they hire farms on rent to store the consignment of liquor and use to smuggle it to other states espacailly to Gujarat, Mittal added.
As per Mittal the seized liquor and vehicles has been shifted to the warehouse of the excise department and a hunt of ebsconding accused hae been launched, besides that the investigating team is also putting efforts to get information about the owner of the farm house.
