Udaipur police on Sunday booked 5 members of a family, including three women for allegdly pushing a woman to suicide after the family spitting on her face and to attempt to undress her in front of community members.
The family member of the victim woman approached the police of the woman after she allegedly attempted to kill herself. “A woman living on Kalka Mata Road at Khatikwara area of the city tried to end her life after she got harrased and mistreatment by a neighbour’s family ,” said SHO of Ambamata police station Chenaram.
Udaipur superintendent of police Kunwar Rashtradeep directed the SHO to register a case against the accused family and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
“We have registered a case under(section 143,354(b),384,388,500,504,506,149 of IPC) against (name and age of accused) on the basis of complaint given by the woman,” the SHO added.
According to the initial investigation the woman’s husband lent Rs 2.5 lakh to his neighbor, Kuldeep Singh Chauhan, in 2015. Chauhan did not repay the loan for a long time and two families often had arguments over this.
Later, the woman’s husband took the matter to the community leaders, who summoned the Chauhan family. The Chauhans lifted the woman’s veil before the community leaders and spat on her face before trying to disrobe her. The onlookers, instead of intervening and rescuing the woman, recorded the harassment on their mobile phones.
Later, when these videos got viral on social media, the woman tried to end her life (The family is only claiming that out of the shock she got depressed and attempted suicide, but not mentioned in police report.). Her family prevented her from committing suicide and informed police about the incident.
